LINDA MARTIN'S STORY

For far too long the taxpayers’ of Augusta Richmond County have seen our tax dollars go to outside contractors who have little or no ties to our community. Those contractors, more often than not, use labor from outside our community who then take their paychecks and profits back to their own communities. Many cities, counties & states across the nation already have local hire mandates and DBE policies and procedures to insure that the taxpaying residents can participate as contractors, vendors and laborers in the projects they actually have paid for.  This will further allow for the entire community to flourish economically.  Let’s come together to create “ONE” Augusta and not just use it as a campaign slogan!

On March 19, 2001 a student by the name of Ebony Paterson, a senior at T.W. Josey, along with another female student, met with the Assistant Principal to complain that C. Smith, the band director, had been sexually harassing them continuously from the 9th grade until present. The Assistant Principal immediately reported the claims to the Principal. The Principal called the students out of class and asked them both to give written statements about the alleged abuse. Four days later on March 23, 2001 the Principal called Mr. Smith into the office to discuss the complaints of the students. He denied the allegations.
